Welcome to Tip 3 of the Budgeting Challenge! Make sure you go back and check out tips 1 and 2 if you missed them.
How many monthly subscriptions do you have?
When was the last time you reviewed your monthly subscriptions? You may be overpaying for services, or worse, paying for things you are no longer using. Go ahead and print out your 3 most recent bank statements. Start going through your services one at a time to see how much you are paying. Look for services you are no longer using and cancel them.
Next, look into the services you are using and see if there is a better deal available. Usually, this will entail calling the company and asking for a better package price so you may want to tackle these one at a time. Check your cell phone account and make sure that you're only paying for what you need. There is no reason to pay for a 25gb plan if you're only averaging 10gb each month.
Finally, make sure there are no other hidden fees or charges you are overlooking. Check over your credit card statements and make sure you're not being billed for subscriptions you've forgotten about or stopped using. These charges can even hide on your cell phone bill. Make sure you look over all of your bills in detail at least once every 3 months.
